Stand up

We are in unprecedented times where so much is unstable and constantly changing. There are challenges around every corner and an ever-changing world landscape. It is overwhelming and we can feel that we are up against insurmountable odds. In all of this we each have our own individual burdens, which can make it difficult to keep our footing, and we can fall.

When that happens, I implore you to remember a few constants:

That you still have the same skills, the same knowledge, the same creativity, the same perseverance. You can do anything you put your mind to and I know you can rise from any fall stronger than you were before.

That it’s easy to lose your balance if you are standing alone on shifting ground. We are in this together, and we must lean on each other to keep from falling.

That everybody falls. Its part of life and learning. There is no shame in it, nor in asking for a hand up.

That if you see someone who has fallen, you don’t have to pick them up, but you can sit beside them. You can listen to what they need to share. You can offer them the hand up so that when they are ready, they have the choice to take it.

That we will stand back up again. And again. And again. And as many times as we need to overcome our obstacles and find the success that I know we can achieve.

I have been offered many helping hands from many people through the years, and while I may not have taken all of them, I remember and appreciate every single one of them. Sometimes just knowing the hand was there was enough to help me find my strength to rise.
