Roy T. Bennett once said “Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
We don’t often have conversations about choice, as some people feel that they are not free to choose at work or in life. I will respectfully disagree. In every moment each of us has a choice to be here, a choice to remain where we are or a choice to grow.
And if you do choose to make a change no-one is going to make it happen for you. You need to make it happen for yourself. Making it happen comes down to choice.
The choice to find what you love to do. As Confucius says “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”.
The choice to learn. If you don’t know how to do what you love, then learn. Every day brings an opportunity to add to your knowledge and your awareness of who you are.
The choice of how you interact with others. Being aware of how your attitudes and actions ripple through those around you, and understanding that words and actions can be uplifting or harmful. We cannot expect to be supported by others, when we do not support others ourselves.
The choice of how you think about yourself. If you think you can’t do it, then you can’t. If you think you are not worthy then others will think the same.
I know without a shadow of a doubt that every single one of you is a capable and worthy. I urge you to think about choice, and how every single moment of your life is defined by the choices you make. As Roy T Bennett said “Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.”
