Let It Go

For years, I tried to carry not only my own burdens, but those of many others as well.   I thought it was what any normal, compassionate adult human did.    After many decades those burdens left me exhausted, discouraged when I failed (which I did, and often), and with a deep dissatisfaction with my life's purpose.

Even after coming to the realization that this was detrimental in all ways, I struggled to put down the burdens that were not mine.  To be honest, I still struggle.    Overcoming a lifetime of unconsciously learned behaviour and ingrained habits is not easy, but it can be done.

I painted this to remind myself that I need to let go of that which is not serving me.    I see it every day, and use it to help release that which is holding me back, holding me in!     Knowing that as I let go I will face the disappointment, and possible anger of those to whom the burden has been returned.

They may never understand why I can no longer carry the responsibility I never should have picked up in the first place, but their acceptance is a burden that is not mine to shoulder.

I find that as I let more go, I have the energy and desire to pick up what I choose.  A healthier lifestyle, a deeper connection to my inner self, and maybe just a bit of fun and adventure!
